Fighting Your Teen's Hormonal Acne

As a parent, you’re focused on getting everything ready for your teen to go back to class. But have you thought about their skin? Let Advanced Laser Clinic help with our August Back-to-School Specials.

Many teenagers struggle with acne as part of their adolescence. While acne is not a life-threatening skin condition, it can nonetheless overwhelmingly affect someone’s appearance and self-esteem. Even a mild breakout can make sufferers feel embarrassed about their looks and less willing to participate in normal social interactions.

Contrary to the popular myth, acne breakouts aren’t a result of poor hygiene, eating greasy foods or excessively touching your face. Dermatologists have identified four key factors that cause acne:

  1. Oil Production
  2. Dead Skin Cells
  3. Clogged Pores
  4. Bacteria

Acne typically appears on the areas of your skin with the highest concentration of oil-producing glands. This includes your face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders. Hair follicles are connected to these oil glands, which secrete an oily substance known as sebum that keeps hair and skin lubricated. Sebum normally travels along the hair shafts and through the openings of the hair follicles onto the surface of your skin. When hair follicles become blocked with oil and dead skin cells, acne is the result.

Sebum and dead skin cells form a soft plug, creating an environment where bacteria can thrive. The bacteria responsible for inflamed acne breakouts are Propionibacteria acnes (P. acnes). P. acnes are normal inhabitants of hair follicles. However, when the P. acnes population in your skin grows out of control, it can cause redness, inflammation, and infection, leading to the formation of pus.

How Bad Can Acne Become?

There are three levels of severity associated with acne.

  1. Mild acne consists of a few lesions that are close to the surface, and not deep or inflamed.
  2. Moderate acne is marked by deeper lesions, accompanied by redness.
  3. Severe acne involves many lesions, multiple cysts and widespread redness and inflammation.

What Triggers Acne Flare-ups?

Several factors can make acne breakouts worse, though these triggers are different for everyone.

Cosmetics - Makeup and hair care products can clog pores. Be sure to look for the following acne-friendly terms on product labels: “oil-free,” “non-comedogenic” or “non-acnegenic.”

Sweating - Because sweat can clog pores, sweating can worsen acne in some people.

Overwashing - It may be tempting to think washing your face more will help get rid of acne, but that’s not the case. For acne-prone skin, dermatologists recommend washing twice a day with a mild cleanser. Washing more often and using strong, astringent cleansers or toners can strip the skin’s natural barriers and create irritation, leading to more acne.

Medications - Some medications can trigger and worsen acne, such as oral corticosteroids, progestin-based birth control, and anti-convulsives.

Menstrual cycle - Many women may experience hormonal acne breakouts around their monthly period, due to hormone fluctuations.

Picking or Squeezing - Touching acne lesions can make them worse and can even lead to permanent scarring. Squeezing or popping pimples can cause sebum and bacteria to leak into surrounding skin tissues, leading to more swelling, redness and possibly infection.

What Causes of Acne Scarring?

While acne may only stick around for a few years, it can leave behind permanent scarring. Acne scars are most often the product of an inflamed lesion. The greater the inflammation on the skin, the more likely scarring is to occur. Deep breakouts that take a long time to heal also increase the chance of scarring.

Acne scars result from the body’s natural attempt to heal itself. To repair the redness and inflammation that come with acne, the skin will form new collagen fibers. Raised acne scars occur when the skin overproduces collagen, while pitted acne scars are the result of not enough collagen production

Modern society puts such a strong emphasis on appearance — especially during the challenging teenage years — that anyone who doesn’t conform to the “norm” can be shunned and stigmatized. If acne is considerably affecting the way you feel about yourself, interfering with your social life or making you feel depressed and anxious, it may be time to seek out therapeutic treatments.
At Advanced Laser Clinic, we love working with acne patients and helping them regain their skin clarity and quality of life.

What Are Advanced Laser Clinic Hormonal Acne Treatments?

IPL Treatments

Lumenis M22 Intense Pulse Light (IPL) has been successfully proven to treat acne safely and effectively. Lumenis M22 is an FDA-approved treatment that uses filtered light to selectively target and kill the P. acnes bacteria on the skin surface, and simultaneously shrinking the sebaceous glands contained in the skin.

During the 20- to 30-minute procedure, your skin care expert will apply a thin layer of gel to your skin, followed by the IPL treatment. Most patients experience minimal discomfort. After the procedure, some patients may experience temporary reddening and minimal swelling of the acne and surrounding skin for a day or two. These side effects are short-lived and usually associated with little or no downtime.

To see maximum results with IPL, a series of four to six monthly treatments is most effective. Most patients will need periodic touch-up treatments ranging from monthly to every six months, depending on the type and severity of your hormonal acne is Springfield Missouri.

Microdermabrasion Treatment

Uses tiny crystals that exfoliate and gently remove the outer layer of skin to reveal fresher skin underneath. This treatment works best for mild acne due to clogged pores and comedones, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin texture. Your skin will instantly feel smoother after your first treatment with the best results seen after 3 to 6 treatments. Microdermabrasion is also a good choice for people with skin that is sensitive to chemical peels.

Chemical Peels

Using light a chemical peel is a great way to exfoliate the skin. The peel targets the dead and dying skin cells to help with cell proliferation. As with most acne treatments, a series of peels and maintenance peels are the best way to keep your acne under control.

Acne Facials

Certain skin types are too sensitive for Microderm or Peels. In this case, we recommend an acne facial. This treatment involves steaming, deep pore cleansing, and extractions. Acne facials will leave the skin cleaner and more clear with no downtime.

Skin Care Products

This is a very important step in the process of clearing the skin. Following a consistent skincare routine using high-quality products can have a great impact on the skin. What a patient does on a daily basis to treat the skin will boost any procedure for maximum results. At Advanced Laser Clinic we customize a realistic routine for each individual person.

Conquer Your Peach Fuzz With Facial Hair Removal in Springfield MO

Conquer Your Peach Fuzz With Facial Hair Removal in Springfield MO

Conquer Your Peach Fuzz With Facial Hair Removal

Waxing, tweezing, laser hair removal. We go to great lengths to stave off unwanted hair, especially in the summertime. But what happens when you want to eliminate those wispy hairs that crop up on your jawline? Vellus hair, otherwise known as “peach fuzz,” can distract from an otherwise flawless complexion, but removal can be tricky since it’s not quite substantial enough to shave or wax. If you’re bothered by pesky peach fuzz, consider dermaplane treatments. Dermaplaning is an exfoliation procedure that gently removes the top layer of skin, eliminating peach fuzz and dead skin cells. It is a great treatment for facial hair removal in Springfield Missouri. Read to find out more about how to conquer your peach fuzz with dermaplaning.

What is Dermaplaning?

We describe dermaplaning as a “skin resurfacing” exfoliation procedure. That’s because dermaplaning literally resurfaces healthy-looking skin by removing the thin outer layer of skin. We know, we know. Removing a layer of your skin sounds intimidating. But, in reality, the top layer of our skin is composed mainly of dead epidermal cells. Those dead skin cells can build up, making your complexion appear dull and uneven. Topped with a smattering of peach fuzz, you may find that your makeup no longer goes on smoothly. Dermaplaning removes up to three weeks’ worth of rough, dead skin, along with any peach fuzz that may have accumulated on the surface of your skin.

How Will I Know If I’m a Good Candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a painless, gentle procedure that we can confidently recommend for most skin types. Dermaplaning doesn’t involve chemicals, and it doesn’t break the capillaries on the face. That makes it a great choice for individuals with sensitive skin. It’s also a solid bet for pregnant or nursing mothers who want to achieve powerful exfoliation while avoiding chemical treatments. The only exception is for our clients with acne. If you’re struggling with active acne or deep, cystic acne, we recommend that you avoid this treatment until your breakouts have cleared.

What Can I Expect During Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning treatments take about 45 minutes. During dermaplaning, a licensed Advanced Laser Clinic aesthetician will cleanse and dry your skin. Then, your aesthetician will pull an area of your skin taut. At that point, your aesthetician will scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz with a small, sterile 10-gauge blade.

Does Dermaplaning Hurt?

No! Dermaplaning is a painless procedure that some fans have compared to shaving your legs (except, in this case, you’re “shaving” your face.)

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

You’ll experience immediate results after a dermaplaning treatment. First, your skin will be noticeably smoother due to the absence of peach fuzz and dead skin cells. Your skin will also have a more even tone and texture, as dermaplaning diminishes dry fine lines and other signs of aging. Finally, removing your top layer of dead skin cells allows your skin to better absorb skincare products, increasing the effectiveness of your personal skin care regimen.

How Much Downtime Will Dermaplaning Require?

Dermaplaning has no side effects and zero downtime. Your skin will, however, be slightly more sensitive after treatment. You’ll need to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation. It’s also worth noting that dermaplaning removes up to three weeks’ worth of dead skin cells. For that reason, it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle, at least 21 days, before your next dermaplaning treatment.

Dermaplaning is a great way to unlock the smooth, healthy-looking skin you’ve always wanted through facial hair removal. Give us a call at 417-883-5400 to schedule your dermaplane appointment.

My Oxygeneo Experience for Skin Rejuvenation in Springfield Missouri

My Geneo Experience for Skin Rejuvenation in Springfield Missouri

My Geneo Experience

Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Lillian, and I’m a local journalist and blogger. I’ve also been dealing with problem skin since I was 11 years old. From acne and scarring to dryness and flaking, my skin has been my worst enemy ever since I can remember. I started working with the Advanced Laser Clinic team a few months ago to address some of those issues. I’ve already seen major improvement, especially with skin rejuvenation. But my favorite treatment thus far is definitely Geneo, a three-in-one anti-aging facial that gave me immediate results with zero downtime. Major win.

The Goal

Like I mentioned, I’ve had problem skin for years. A monthly regimen of chemical peels and facials has helped a lot during the past six months, but I was still experiencing some dullness and leftover dryness from a tough winter. I perform in a monthly comedy show, and I wanted a little boost the week before my show. I had heard that Geneo treatments were great before big events like weddings or class reunions, so I decided to give it a try.

The Treatment

Geneo is described as three-in-one facial because it performs three essential services for your skin: It exfoliates, it oxygenates and it infuses skin with essential nutrients. Before my treatment, I was told that there would be no downtime since Geneo is good for even the most sensitive skin. To be honest, I was skeptical – not because I didn’t believe in the treatment, but because I know how finicky my skin can be.

To begin, my esthetician removed my makeup and steamed my face. A lot of people don’t like the effects of the steamer, but I love the way it opens up my pores and my sinuses. At that point, my face was prepared with a treatment gel. Geneo treatments include one of two nutrient-rich gel options: NeoBright™, which contains azaleic acid, kojic acid and retinol, and NeoRevive™, which contains anti-aging ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides and retinol. Since I struggle with acne, we opted for the NeoBright™ gel. My esthetician covered my face in the gel, allowing it to penetrate before utilizing the Geneo applicator.

Let me take this opportunity to say that I was nervous about using an applicator. I’ve had microdermabrasion before, and my skin is just too sensitive to reap all of the benefits. However, the Geneo applicator has a soft exfoliating head that felt more pleasant than abrasive. It was a slightly tingly sensation that instantly made the skin on my face feel tighter. That exfoliation, combined with the treatment gel, creates a gentle chemical reaction on the skin that results in carbon dioxide bubbles. Those bubbles help oxygenate the skin internally, helping cell turnover and making the skin more receptive to the nutrients in the gel. After my esthetician used the applicator on my skin, the rest of the treatment was a standard facial. A few extractions later, I was on my way home.

How It Felt

I don’t have a high pain tolerance, so I can be a wimp when it comes to heavy-duty facial treatments. Fortunately for me, the Geneo just felt like a tingly facial massage. The exfoliation was refreshing and gentle, and the nutrient gel made my face feel clean and nourished all at once.

The Results

I have extremely sensitive skin, so my skin typically gets very red, inflamed and puffy after treatments. Even after simple facials, I tend to break out. That didn’t happen with the Geneo treatment. Immediately after leaving the clinic, my skin looked plump, hydrated and radiant. The next morning, the results were even more apparent. The treatment brightened up my whole face without irritating it. Ultimately, I’d feel comfortable getting a Geneo treatment the day of an important event – it’s that gentle.

Geneo now ranks at the top of my favorite skin care treatments. The benefits are powerful, but the treatment is gentle enough that you can get it the day of an important event without worrying about irritation. Go to Advanced Laser Clinic for expert care in skin rejuvenation in Springfield Missouri. Call 417-883-5400 to set up your appointment as soon as possible.

Meet Our Newest Team Member for Esthetics in Springfield Missouri

Meet Our Newest Team Member

Meet Our Newest Team Member for Esthetics in Springfield MissouriWe’re excited to announce the arrival of our newest team member, Teresa Benz. Teresa comes to us after spending seven years in the nursing field. Before that, she completed cosmetology school. She falls somewhere between medical expert and passionate esthetic service provider, which makes her a great addition to the Advanced Laser Clinic team for esthetics in Springfield Missouri.

Advanced Laser Clinic: Welcome, Teresa! You’re new to esthetics. Tell us about your background.

Teresa Benz: Well, I am new to medical esthetics, but I’ve been involved with beauty and cosmetology since I left [cosmetology] school. My license consisted of not only hair care, but also nail and face care. But, at that time, I only practiced hair – so this is my first time working in skincare.

ALC: What made you decide to pursue medical esthetics?

TB: Medical esthetics are actually the whole reason I went to nursing school [after cosmetology school]. I wanted to get into medical esthetics – either plastics or esthetician services, like the PRP injections. So, I went to nursing school and then graduated and put out my resume. However, in this area, the market is pretty competitive, and I wasn’t able to find a medical esthetics position. Fast forward to seven years later, when I went in for a procedure with Jill Thompson. I said, “You aren’t hiring by any chance, are you?” She said, “Well, actually, we’re expanding. You’ve got great timing.”

ALC: How will you incorporate your nursing experience into medical esthetics?

TB: My skills are really a perfect mix for something like this. With my cosmetology background, I love working with people, and I really have that desire to make people feel good about themselves and improve their confidence. With my medical background, it increases the range of procedures I can perform. For example, I can draw blood and plasma for microneedling procedures, but I’m also trained in more basic procedures.

ALC: What treatments do you currently perform?

TB: I’m currently trained in microdermabrasion, facials, peels, OxyGeneo, IPL photofacials and laser hair removal.

ALC: What’s your favorite treatment to perform?

TB: So far, I like the IPL photofacials. I’ve never worked with lasers before, and the whole concept of it is really cool. Seeing the instant results on someone who might come in with age spots or discoloration is really impressive.

We can’t wait to see how Teresa uses her medical knowledge and passion for customer service to take our team to new heights. To schedule an appointment with Teresa, give us a call at (417) 883-5400.

Geneo Anti-Aging Facial in Springfield Missouri

OxyGeneo Anti-Aging Facial in Springfield Missouri

Get Ready For Your Next Event With A Geneo Facial

Geneo treatments are a three-in-one approach to skincare, tackling exfoliation, skin rejuvenation and oxygenation. Advanced Laser Clinic offers this super anti-aging facial in Springfield Missouri. Treatments are completed with a Geneo applicator that offers skin exfoliation similar to a gentle microdermabrasion treatment.

After the skin is exfoliated and prepared to receive essential nutrients, we infuse the skin with an exclusive formula designed to enhance the oxygenation process. Unlike standard oxygen facials, which are completed with suction applicators that can irritate the skin, the Geneo applicator features a soft exfoliating head that, when combined with the treatment gel we place on your skin, creates a gentle chemical reaction creating carbon dioxide bubbles. That, in turn, causes oxygenated blood to come to the skin’s surface. The oxygenation is completely internal, which is great for sensitive skin.

Is Geneo Right For Me?

Geneo facials leave your skin looking radiant with no downtime. That means that these treatments are ideal if you’re preparing for a big event like a wedding or a class reunion. Geneo treatments offer a host of benefits including pore reduction, fine line improvement and skin plumping and brightening. That’s not all: Regular treatments performed on a monthly basis can offer a marked improvement in acne, scarring, and severe fine lines. Geneo is gentle enough for sensitive skin while offering excellent results. Simply put, this is a facial treatment with universal benefits.

What Results Should I Expect?

Geneo anti-aging facial does three things: exfoliate skin, infuse skin with nutrients and oxygenate skin. After your treatment, you can expect plump, re-hydrated skin with a youthful glow. You can also expect reduced pigmentation and minimized pores.

At Advanced Laser Clinic, we’re committed to helping you look your best before your big event. Our Geneo treatments are normally $115. However, during the month of June 2018, we’re offering an introductory special of only $90 treatments so you can try out our newest service and see the benefits for yourself. Give us a call at (417) 883-5400 to schedule your appointment.

Combat Summer Sun Damage With Facials in Springfield Missouri

Combat Summer Sun With An Anti Aging Facial in Springfield Missouri

Combat Summer Sun Damage With Facials

Once Summer is finally here, there are many things we need to focus on to keep our skin healthy. First and foremost, we need to protect our skin every day. Using a quality physical sunblock is the best. Apply sunscreen to your face, neck and décolleté every day.

80 % of UVA rays from the sun (the ones that age you) can penetrate through clouds and windows. These harmful rays are responsible for 80-90% of the visible signs of aging and are also the main cause of skin cancer. With the change in seasons, it's time to rethink your skin care regimen.

Products we use in Winter may not be appropriate for summertime use. Moisturizers are the main culprit here. In summer switching to a lighter formula is usually best. Heavy creams used for winter dryness will often cause breakouts with the humidity of Summer.

Definitely the way you wash your face should be evaluated. A milk cleanser, that would be more suited for winter dryness, might not cut through the stickiness the summer weather can cause. Switching to a foaming cleanser will clean the skin better with no worry about being too drying.

Next we need to change our treatment protocols. Summer is not the ideal time for advanced anti-aging treatments or many chemical peels. Sun exposure can be very counterproductive to the skin after advanced treatments. Instead, we need to focus on deep cleansing, hydrating, and replenishing the vitamins our skin loses through sun exposure. Light exfoliation is still essential for healthy skin turnover.

Facials and oxygen treatments will do just this. Chlorine and other chemicals we encounter more often in summer can rob our skin of key nutrients. Staying on a skin maintenance routine is best to keep ours in shape.

Advanced Laser Clinic is here to keep you on the path to beautiful skin using the best methods for seasonal changes. At Advanced Laser Clinic, we carry medical grade SkinCeuticals, Obagi, and Environ which all have summer regimens.

We also provide services such as Hydration Facials and Oxygen Facials in Springfield Missouri using our new OxyGeneo +. This treatment is a great way to keep your skin healthy over the summer months. Call us today for more information regarding this fabulous new treatment.

Prevent Sun Damage with Physical Sunscreens – IPL in Springfield Missouri

Prevent Sun Damage with Physical Sunscreens - IPL in Springfield Missouri

Prevent Sun Damage with Physical Sunscreens

May is Melanoma Prevention Month, which means a lot to us here at Advanced Laser Clinic. Skincare isn’t just about looking great. It’s about caring for yourself in a way that ensures your physical well-being for years to come. This month, we’d like to spotlight what we consider to be the most important tool in your skincare toolkit: physical sunscreens.

What are Physical Sunscreens?

Unlike chemical sunscreens, physical sunscreens work by sitting on top of the skin and deflecting the sun’s harmful rays. Where chemical sunscreens can lead to a higher internal skin temperature (potentially leading to brown spots), physical sunscreens deflect UVA and UVB rays before they impact the skin. Physical sunscreens also contain active mineral ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which work to deflect UVA and UVB rays.

Why are Physical Sunscreens Important?

Contrary to popular belief, protecting your skin from burning rays (UVB) isn’t enough – you need to protect skin from aging rays (UVA) to prevent premature aging. Physical sunscreens work to block both. However, physical sunscreens do tend to wash off when exposed to a high volume of water or sweat, making it essential to re-apply if you’re spending time at the pool or the beach.

Which Physical Sunscreens Does Advanced Laser Clinic Carry?

We carry several physical sunscreens, but our favorite is SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defense sunscreen in 50 SPF. This product provides broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays. It also provides a slight tint to enhance your skin’s natural radiance. It is water-resistant for up to 40 minutes, and we’re big fans of the lightweight formula which doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy.

My Skin Already Has A Lot of Sun Damage. Is There Anything I Can Do?

Yes! For sun-damaged skin, we highly recommend a treatment with pulsed light energy to encourage skin rejuvenation. Intense Pulsed Light therapy (IPL) could be a great fit for your skin. Advanced Laser Clinic specializes in IPL in Springfield Missouri. We use an M22 IPL device, an all-in-one device that can target a variety of skin issues like fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, skin discoloration from sun exposure and more. Learn more about IPL treatments here.

Curious about preventing or addressing sun damage to your skin? Give us a call at 417-883-5400 to set up a free consultation.

Benefits Of Intense Pulsed Light Photofacials in Springfield Missouri

Benefits Of Intense Pulsed Light Photofacials in Springfield Missouri

Benefits Of Intense Pulsed Light Photofacials

As we get older, our skin accumulates a significant amount of damage. From sun spots, to rosacea, to broken capillaries, resulting from lifestyle choices. A lot of people resign themselves to the idea that skin damage is just a part of aging. The good news? It doesn’t have to be that way.

Luckily there's a procedure that minimizes a variety of pigmentation issues: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments. IPL treatments are non-invasive  procedures that allow intense pulses of light to penetrate deep into the skin. This light energy stimulates tissue replacement by targeting the darker skin cells and the reds in the lower dermal layer. IPL corrects a wide variety skin tone concerns. Intrigued? Find out if IPL is right for you.

The IPL Procedure

For IPL treatments, we use a non-laser medical device called the Lumenis M22 to deliver a series of pulses of light onto the surface of your skin. The treatment may feel similar to a laser procedure. By constricting capillaries and causing controlled damage to the unhealthy pigmented skin cells, IPL gently but efficiently improves the overall skin tone and texture.

After the procedure, you’ll see signs of sun damage and age spots temporarily darken. Don’t be alarmed: Over the course of the next several weeks, those darkened spots will fade and flake off, effectively clearing your complexion.

When working with severely pigmented skin, several treatments are required. Each treatment builds upon the next. This allows the skin to be treated gradually and see how it reacts. Spacing treatments four weeks apart allows for the skin to completely turn over and return to normal before we treat again.

The Ideal IPL Client

IPL treatments are great for clients with hyperpigmentation and redness concerns. Some of the most common issues we see are sun damage like sun spots, also known as photo-aged skin. It’s also important to note that IPL treatments aren’t just for the face. We’ve seen great results using IPL photofacials in Springfield Missouri on sun-damaged body regions like the arms and the chest. IPL is also great for the following skin issues:

  • Irregular skin pigmentation resulting from hormonal factors and/or sun exposure
  • Dilated blood vessels and broken capillaries

The Results From Photofacials

IPL treatments provides gradual, natural-looking skin improvement with excellent long-term results. Immediately following an IPL treatment, you may notice a slight reddening of the surrounding skin which typically subsides within a couple of hours. After that, the result process can take up to three weeks, at which point you can expect a noticeably clearer, younger-looking complexion. Multiple treatments may be necessary depending on the severity of your skin concern, but you should notice reduced redness, minimized capillaries and smaller pores after just one treatment.

We’re committed to making your IPL experience a great one, which is why our certified technicians are able to assess the needs of your skin and customize the settings of our device for optimal results. If you think IPL might be a good fix for your skin concerns, call us at 417-883-5400 for a consultation.

Prep Your Skin For Summer – Skin Analysis in Springfield Missouri

Prep Your Skin For Summer - Skin Analysis in Springfield Missouri

Prep Your Skin For Summer

Prepping your skin for summer can be easier said than done, especially when skincare may have fallen by the wayside in colder months. Check out our four-step plan to get your complexion glowing in time for swimsuit season:

Step 1: A Healthy Foundation

It’s tough to uncover your best skin when you’re dealing with layers of dryness and dullness from a harsh winter. That’s why we recommend treatments like microdermabrasion to rehydrate and renew your skin in time for summer. Microdermabrasion is a safe, quick and convenient way to give any complexion a brighter, smoother look—especially when you may be in need of some serious exfoliation. It’s also a great way to reduce blemishes if you’re prone to acne. Get more information about microdermabrasion here.

Step 2: Proper Nutrition

Good skincare isn’t just about topical treatments—it’s also about what you put in your body. To get that summer glow back, it’s important to keep a few key things in mind when choosing your next meal. First, lean toward healthy fats like avocados and nuts. Healthy fats help keep skin flexible and moisturized, which in turn reduces signs of aging. Omega-3 fatty acids, usually found in fish, are also necessary to keep skin supple, moisturized and protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Questions about nutrition? Give us a call at 417-883-5400 for more tips.

Step 3: Say Goodbye to Pesky Hair

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Life is hairy enough without having to deal with unwanted body hair during swimsuit season. That includes both body hair and facial hair that might be cramping your laid-back summer style. You still have time to book your laser hair removal appointment at 30 percent off, but the special ends at the end of March. Get more information about our laser hair removal treatments here.

Step 4: Topical Care

Once you’ve worked your way to a good foundation with proper nutrition and treatments like microdermabrasion and laser hair removal, it’s imperative to maintain your progress with a solid skincare regimen. First, find a moisturizer that works for you. We recommend sticking with a lightweight product that won’t give you the dreaded sweaty look; for example, Environ’s Vita-Antioxidant moisturizer, part of the EssentiA product line. It supports supple, youthful skin while avoiding that heavy, oily texture that could lead to breakouts.

Even more important than moisturizer is sun protection. We can’t emphasize enough that sun protection is the biggest key to avoiding cosmetic skin issues like fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration along with serious issues like melanoma. At Advanced Laser Clinic, we have several sun care ranges from Obagi, Environ, SkinCeuticals, Topix and CBI.

Curious about which products and treatments are the best for getting your skin ready for summer? Pay us a visit for an expert skin analysis in Springfield Missouri. We’d love to help you rediscover your best skin.
