Some of our clients might wonder how to choose between an IPL photofacial and micro needling in Springfield Missouri. Both treatments are amazing and very popular at Advanced Laser Clinic. The choice comes down to your specific skin needs.

IPL is short for intense pulsed light and is a light therapy that is used to target browns and reds in the skin. If you are dealing with hyperpigmentation, age spots or broken capillaries, then this is the treatment for you.

Downtime for an IPL photofacial is about a week for your skin to get back to normal. The browns and the reds in your skin will be darker and more apparent until it heals below the skin and then sheds away. Some people experience redness and/or swelling along with a sunburn type of feeling in the treated area.

IPL requires two weeks prior and two weeks post procedure with no sun exposure. Regular trips to work or the store are fine while you're avoiding the sun, but no walks out in the sun or weekends on the river.

IPL is a great, almost instant results type of procedure. After the skin heals in about a week, your skin tone will be visibly improved. It’s an amazing treatment.

Micro needling is also an effective treatment. It is just used for different skin issues. If you are dealing with fine lines, texture, scarring, or laxity, then this is the treatment for you.

Micro needling uses a sterile needle cartridge to puncture lots of tiny fine holes in your skin. This process is called a controlled wound. A controlled wound causes the body's wound healing response to kick in.

While the wound heals, collagen, elastin, and the fiber matrix of your skin is stimulated. Sometimes micro needling is called collagen induction therapy because the purpose is of the treatment is to cause your skin to make new collagen.

This is an amazing anti-aging treatment and is great to do one to three times a year.

Micro needling involves about a week of downtime. You'll also need to avoid sun exposure. Your skin will be red, tender and swollen from one to three days.

No product can be used on your skin, except for what we provide, for 24 hours. You'll want to plan on taking a day off and not using any sunscreen or makeup.

After 24 hour hours, these products can be used again, but treat your skin gently for about a week.

Micro needling takes more time to see the full results. Most people start to see results immediately after healing, but the full results take up to three months for the skin to complete the collagen induction process.
